Home Automation / Security & Convenience

Lots of people talk about home automation, like being able to stream music or video into room A or B, or have server storing all your music and video or being able to Dim the lights from a central control unit / smart phone or have blinds open or close automatically. My iPhone and iPad are my music and video library, and my Apple tv just binds it all together, so thats sorted that. and the house will be WiFied up with Apple Airport extremes.

So for me it's all about simplicity and convenience. With some of the current and future tech the need for hardwired system are just plain overkill on both cost and complexity. Its also risky as you may be installing an expensive white elephant system. Sure some elements need to be hardwired, like camera's and control panels and a cat5 system or similar needs to travel between certain parts of the house. But for us we wanted a good quality entry / comms system that could integrate with a video security system, and it provides integrated keyless entry into the house. Enter Samsung Ezon Smart Home system. We specked a integrated monitoring, entry and security system that means we have card or pin entry access basically eliminating the need for keys in the house and you monitor an unlock the door from a cool panel control or remote.

The lock system has randomised codes making it tough the see what your keying in plus it has RF car and tag automated access, plus a key override. So two of the doors will have this system, Cant wait to go out "keyless"

Love the smell of Concrete in the Morning

I love the smell of concrete in the morning. What a difference a day makes - what a beautiful slab, I think this one is going in for the slab of the year awards. High and pour quality / layout

Pretty cool effort by the Slab Guys, must have been the Coffee's we delivered prior to the pour this morning. We may have to hire a gut with a M16 to stand guard overnight, dont want any unauthorised dog or cat prints in this work of art.

Pre Slab Excitement

Well here it is August 28 and the slab prep is completed with a Slab pour due tomorrow (weather permitting) Very happy with the final level of the house, Looked like the slab height might be a little low but looks just right. Funny I now have a spring in my step after a rather depressing 30 days of no progress, Cant wait till our walk by in the morning.

Patience Please

A week after we named the block "Water World" The sky cleared a warm breeze and sunny breaks appeared and hey presto site preparation ignited Phew!. The level men arrived and plumbing work commenced and suddenly we had an outline of the site starting to emerge. So finally the Phoenix started to look like it was rising from the puddle

We decided to clean up some on the rough edges, so I got my assistant on the job - respect!

We had to fork out an extra $1,300 to have blade piles "screwed" into the ground in lieu of concrete as the site has a tad to much dampness to contemplate concrete piers so at least the work now begin.

Water World

Site start was pegged for July 18, however the Melbourne winter rain and the dead level of the site saw the site renamed Water World. We returned from Singapore (which didnt rain for 8 days) to a Lake and no work on the site. The original plan was for the slab to be in by August 17 and framing to commence on Monday the 20th of August.
